CORE is a seven-piece band performing classic and contemporary Rock & Roll that is instantly recognizable. Originally formed in 1997, the heart of CORE’s line-up have been making music together as CORE for more than 15 years. Our Muse is Rock & Roll, our unyielding quest - to write, cover and perform textured and nuanced songs that feature improvisation, interpretation, innovation, experimentation and serve the Spirit of the Jam.
As accomplished songwriters, CORE has written and recorded two albums of original music. Our songs “Forgotten Roads” and “Hard to Say Goodbye” have received local radio airplay. Jim Nelson, host of the Saturday Midday Music Mix program on radio station KCSN, 88.5 FM recently commented,
“The best part about completing the 2015 LA Marathon was crossing the finish line. The second-best part was having CORE’s lead singer, Todd Leitz, make up new, personalized, uplifting lyrics to The Marshall Tucker Band’s ‘Can’t You See’ on the fly as I ran by them at Mile 25. CORE, you guys helped me finish a marathon! If I ever decide to climb Mt. Everest I’m bringing you along!”
Over our 20-year history, CORE has written and recorded more than 25 compositions, many of which are still prominently featured in our performing repertoire. Even today, we’re enthusiastically recording new originals for introduction into our upcoming stage shows.
CORE also favors listeners with a selection of classic rock & roll cover tunes reminding audience members of familiar songs from the past. CORE carefully selects other artist’s releases that are totally recognizable yet aren't the commercial radio hits that typically receive consistent overplay. CORE features songs by Artists like Steely Dan, Tom Petty, Peter Gabriel, the Grateful Dead, the Eagles, the Band, Joe Cocker, Traffic, the Temptations, the Box Tops, Stevie Ray Vaughn and many more too numerous to mention here.
CORE specializes in upbeat, family friendly tunes that maximize audience engagement and enjoyment. CORE especially enjoys supporting charities, volunteering and sharing our music at community-minded events. Notably, in 2015 we were honored with selection to perform at the Special Olympics’ Athlete’s Village on the campus of UCLA. Throughout our career, CORE has performed at dozens of Relay for Life cancer fundraisers and at a host of other non-profit events in the greater Los Angeles area, striving to provide the community with positive vibes, good music, and uplifted spirits. CORE’s extensive catalog of original and cover music allows us to respond to the audience’s mood and preferences to create a toe-tapping good time for everyone. From Dodger Stadium to the Beach, the soundtrack of LA is CORE!
